What is gluten? I have had some major health issues with no answers from dr.s and on today show showed something i overheard and almost all my sypmtoms were among the ones desciribed. How do you get tested and what is gluten?
What is the name of the disease that means your allergic to gluten?
Celiac sprue. It requires specialized testing, usually by a GI doctor to determine if this is the disease you are suffering from. I didn't look it up but I think your regular doctor can order a test called an anti-endomysial antibody test to rule this out.
Reply:Gluten is a kind of protein found in grain products. It's what gives bread dough its elasticity. However, in some people gluten triggers their autoimmune system and they get what is basically a severe gluten allergy. The condition is known as celiac disease and it can literally be life-threatening. People with celiac disease have to be careful and avoid products with gluten for the rest of their lives.
