Reply:It means "in the direction of Ed"
Reply:The boy's name Edward is pronounced ED-werd. It is of Old English origin, and its meaning is "wealth protector". Used in the royal family by kings of England (including the saint Edward the the Confessor) since before the Norman Conquest.
Reply:Defender of property
Reply:It was first used when a new King was born who had red hair, He was known as Young King Edward, and was a kindly soul who made it his lifes work feeding his people - mainly with potatoes specially grown for the purpose.

When other people from far off lands came to our shores and saw these strange looking vegetables and asked what they were the reply was "Red King Taters, or Best King Edwards" they would leave shaking their heads and saying. This country is ruled by King with a Red Head!!!

Gender: Masculine

Usage: English, Polish

Pronounced: ED-wurd (English), ED-vahrt (Polish) [key]

Means "rich guard", derived from the Old English elements ead "rich, blessed" and weard "guard". Saint Edward the Confessor was the king of England shortly before the Norman Conquest. Because of his popularity this name remained in use after the conquest (most other Old English names were replaced by Norman ones), and was even the name of eight subsequent kings of England. Edward is also one of the few Old English names to be used throughout Europe.
Reply:It's Old English for "wealth Protector"
