What's the meaning of the name Frosti? My friend lives in Iceland and i'm cirious about it. thanks in advance.

Hi, in Iceland personal names remain very similar to those used by the early Norse settlers but the arrival of Christianity, although relatively late, brought with it the Biblical name stock. These take similar forms to those used in Scandinavia. It is unusual for spelling variations to be found as there are strict rules concerning grammar and pronunciation. Also the media has introduced new names into icelandic culture.

Remember that one thing about Icelandic names is that almost no one ever uses the last name. So, it's a safe bet to use the first name when addressing someone on Iceland. Even the Icelandic president is to be addressed by the first name.

The last name is mostly just a reference to who you father was. Therefore, Magnusson means the son of a man called Magnus. If it was a girl, the daughter of Magnus then she would be called Magnusdottir ( of course dottir means daughter).

The name Frosti comes from the indoeuropean word frost which means frost in english, in swedish, norwegian and other nordic languages. The i at the end is a form of making it knickname or familiar name adding "closeness and care" so it would kind of mean little frost or beloved frost . Also much in the same way as above the son of Frosti would be Frostison and his daughter Frostidottir

Frosti: was also the name of a legendary dwarf in nordic icelandic mythology.

Itis a quite common name in Iceland too.
