Reply:Hete is a Norwegian verb - meaning "be named".

Hate - Middle English, from the Old English "hete" ...

From the City of Heviz, Hungary.

...Till 1871 seven houses were built near the lake. The so-called 'Hetes haz' (The Seventh House) still stands today....

So it is just possible that Hetes is a Hungarian name by origin and (in this case) means 'seventh', but without doing research into your friends family history it is impossible to say.
Reply:A persons ancestry ALWAYS is explicit, concerning who their ancestors were. So.. you cannot assume that everyone with (any) last name is going to have the same background.

I do find the name in census records in 1920, a John Hetes and family, with details that he was born in Hungary, and immigrated in 1914. Of course, we have no way to be sure that your friend is actually related to this John Hetes, or someone else. This person lived in Lake co, Indiana at the time.

It is only a possible clue.
Reply:No body in India,,,,,
Reply:Ancient Roman god , unknown to most
Reply:there doesnt appear to be a definition for Hetes as a word in English.

maybe it is of foreign ancestry
Reply:no i no no one with that last name sorry
