Meaning of German last name "Schibber"?

and are there any alternative spellings of the name? i've seen "skibber" which may or not may derived from schibber. any one with any knowledge of the surname is welcome to answer :)

Meaning of German last name "Schibber"?
Probably a corruption of "Schiffer" (sailor).
Reply:i understand that it is far more nicer to be sailor than someone who pushes/shoves things.

i studied German for 8 years, i m no professional but sailor thing doesnt make much sense. Report Abuse

Reply:German-English translations for "schieben":

to edge (on)

to push

to shove

to shuffle

to move

to slide {slid, slid}

to thrust {thrust, thrust}

'i' in Schibber read in German sounds almost same as 'ie' in schiebe, 'i' would be read like 'e' and 'ie' like 'ee'
