Which name for a boy do you prefer: Dai or Quentin?

Dai is a Welsh name derived from the Celtic for "to shine". It is pronounced the same as DYE.

Quentin is the French form of a Roman family name which was taken from a personal name meaning "fifth". There is a 3rd century French saint and martyr with this name.

Even if you don't love either name, which one do you like more or feel is more usable?

Which name for a boy do you prefer: Dai or Quentin?
Even though I like Dai. It sounds too much like "die" nor "di" as in, a nic for Diana/Dianne...I just can't imagine actually using it...not in the States anyway.

Quentin is sweet. I don't LOVE it, but I do like it and think it's sweet. So, that gets my vote.
Reply:I love Quentin. It's strong and masculine; it's historical and literary (Sir Walter Scott wrote a novel called "Quentin Durward"). It has the familiar two-syllable ends-in-N pattern of many common boys' names, but its Q-beginning makes it very distinctive.

Dai is cool. Unfortunately, it's likely to get often mispronounced as "day"; and when pronounced properly, it sounds rather morbid.

Dai would be an awesome boy's middle name. (I'll have to add it to my list to suggest to people...wherever did you dig this one up?) But up front, I'd have to go with Quentin.
Reply:Definitely Quentin, you must remember if Dai is pronounced the same as dye then it's pronounced the same as the other spelling - die - as in to die.

Not so pleasant for a young child and pretty ashamed for a grown man to have live with the name Dai. I mean imagine his friend saw him in the street and ran after him shouting "Dai, Dai" which would sound like "die, die" - they'd get some strange looks!

Hope I helped!
Reply:Whenever you are chosing a name for a child, think further out into the future. Ask yourself, how would this name fit with his/her surname; how would it look on their office door, etc. Personally, I would prefer not to be named Dai for the simple reason that I wouldn't want to spend my entire life spelling my name to whomever I needed to give it to (when making reservations, school roll-call, etc.) or correcting people that mispronounce it.
Reply:I think Quentin is the better of the two.

Why would you want to name your child Dai.. (Die) it's a horrible name with a horrible meaning. (i mean the "die" meaning not Dai)

Quentin is ok, it sounds very sophisticated.

Good luck! x
Reply:Are you on here to actually name a child or are you only interested in people's opinon of names and to give a history lesson? lol Because I see you on here all the time with these weird names and an explanation of where they came from..
Reply:Quentin

Dai seems more like a middle name if you go with the Asian pronounciation (Day) over the Welsh pronounciation (Dye).
Reply:yea, i personally don't love the names but i think Quentin would be a more usable name if you were to go with either one...more usable as a middle name.
Reply:Quentin.

cause I like Quentin tarantino.
Reply:Neither, really. But Quentin is the better of the two.
Reply:Quentin

When the kid gets older he will probably be made fun of considering it sounds like DIE.
Reply:Interesting!

I love the name Quentin (great for someone's fifth son!).
Reply:I like Quentin better. Dai sounds too much like Die.
Reply:quentin is more usuable
Reply:Dai but don't like either.

Reply:Quentin! I am sure your son will thank you for not calling him die, i mean dai
Reply:For a boy's name I prefer Quentin. It's much more proper.
